Upton Sinclair

Upton Beall Sinclair never lived in Chicago but his work “The Jungle” makes him worth being mentioned in connection with Chicago poetry.

Sinclair was born on the 20th of September, 1878 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was a writer and politician. “The Jungle” is a novel about the bad circumstances in Chicago’s meat packing industry. When he published it in 1906 and it got popular, the Meat Inspection Act followed in the same year.
In 1943 Sinclair won the Pulitzer Prize for his novel “Dragon’s Teeth”.
He died on the 25th of November, 1068 in Bound Brook, New Jersey.
